What is the European Union?

The European Union is the world’s largest economy. It is a agreement between 28 countries that unifies them as one. What does this mean? It means that these countries all share one currency and they all have the same passport. Some advantages that come for having one passport is that people who live in the union can live in any of those countries and it is very easy to trade with countries in the agreement.

The future for the European Union

Although Great Britain left The EU they are trying to arrange a free trade agreement with them. If they could arrange a free trade agreement I believe that this would benefit Great Brittain way more than it would benefit The EU. In the EU there is 28 countries, that one trade agreement would sign Great Britain to trade to all of those countries with just one agreement.
Some trade agreements that the EU already has 34 present free trade agreements that are in force (in action).

Why was it founded?

The main reason why the European Union was founded was to prevent future wars breaking out, world war two was one of the deadliest events in human history and Europe did not want another terrible war to pass through its land. The original countries that were part of the treaty were France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy and Germany. In 1957 it grew to 9 countries. There has only ever been three countries to leave The EU Greenland in 1982 when it gained independence from Denmark, Saint Barthélemy (an island in the Caribbean) left when it gained independence from France and the most recent Great Britain in 2016.

Facts

There has been an estimated population of over 510 million people in all 28 countries combined. The most recent country to join the union was Croatia in 2013. Another interesting fact is that it has a total area space of 4,475,757 square kilometers.

Is the European single market a good thing?

Yes the European single market is a good thing because it unites all of the European countries and allows free trade. This means that they do not have to pay extra money to import or export goods in other countries in the union. Countries in the union can advance so much faster because they have 28 countries that are all together.
